One hundred and sixty four years ago today, Oregon became the 33rd state of the United States. It had only been about 50 years since Lewis and Clark arrived on the Oregon coast! By 1848, Oregon was forming a government in the Oregon Territory, which at the time included what is now the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and a small portion of Montana and Wyoming. By 1859, Oregon’s shape was the same one we know today!
Oregon has a rich history before Lewis and Clark arrived as well as since. KCL has over 100 books about Oregon for anyone to borrow!
