Keizer Community Library Mourns
It is with great sorrow that the Keizer Community Library mourns the passing of one of our long-time, dedicated volunteers, Mr. Stephen Prothero. A link to his official obituary is here:
As one of many activities after retirement, Steve offered his services as a volunteer; he assumed the duties of Library Director in May of 2011 and led the library’s expansion into larger quarters at the Heritage Center. His knowledge and skills in the field of technology were immediately put to use in connection with planned conversion to electronic inventory and circulation control, and in providing opportunity for public Internet use. Along with grants from the Collins Foundation and the Keizer Rotary Foundation, Steve donated a large sum in order to help obtain six new, state of the art computers for the Library.
Prothero, who had for some time been battling terminal cancer, was forced to give up the active position of Library Director less than a year later. While serving as Director Emeritus for the past year, Steve remained dedicated to the Keizer Community Library and his family of volunteers. He passed away on Friday, March 1.
Steve Prothero will be long remembered for his energy and enthusiasm, as well as his final contributions to the Library.
Memorial contributions may be made to Keizer Community Library, in honor of Steve Prothero. Contributions can be sent to: Keizer Community Library, 980 Chemawa Road N, Keizer, OR 97303.
We will miss you, Steve.
